Supporting Earthquake Relief Efforts In Japan

13 May 2016

Our church is extending practical help by giving US$10,000 towards the relief efforts in Kumamoto, Japan where earthquakes in April 2016 caused significant destruction and displaced thousands of people.

We are working with Lifehouse Church in Japan and our giving will go towards the work of clearing housing rubble, buying ingredients for hot food, purchasing petrol for sending resources to the hardest hit area, and the distribution of resources and essential supplies to the evacuation centre for earthquake victims.

We employ a variety of means to keep you informed as a church: Sunday service announcements, impactful visuals and slides in services, websites, apps, animations, social media, e-newsletters like e-Solid Rock, our annual print magazine Solid Rock, printed collaterals like the Church Update, digital wallpapers and verse cards, and more.

Creativity, skill and a sense of adventure are necessary ingredients to produce effective communications. An ability to commit helps too so that you can see a project from start to end.

Available volunteer roles are:

  • Photographers
  • Comms Support (Office Admin)

If you fit the bill and have a heart to serve, we’d like to invite you to join us and use your grace gifts to support the work of God!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) — Photographer Team

  1. What are the criteria to serve as a photographer? Are there any minimum requirements?
You should have made New Creation Church your home church. You should also possess your own DSLR and photography equipment, and have basic photography knowledge and skills.

Basic photography skills include knowing how to use your DSLR with a working knowledge of ISO settings, shutter speed adjustments and aperture control. The more experience you have, the better!

  2. Can I volunteer even though I am not a professional photographer?
You do not need to be a professional photographer, nor someone who has a lot of photography experience or technical photographic skills in order to serve with us.

As long as you meet the basic requirements (see question 1), are willing to serve and learn, we will be glad to consider your application.

  3. Do I need a professional portfolio?/What if I don’t have a portfolio?
A portfolio allows us to assess your skills and photography styles, and see how you can fit into our current teams. However, we do not require a professional portfolio. A compilation of 25 of your best photos — preferably related to event photography, publications/magazines or photojournalism, although other styles are fine as well — will do. Your portfolio can be online or physically printed out with four photos on an A4 page, single-sided.

FAQs — Comms Support (Office Admin) Team

  1. What is serving in the Comms Support (Office Admin) team about? What will I be doing?
You will be part of a team of office servers that help with office administration such as archiving, filing, scanning.

  2. What are the requirements for serving in this team?
You will need to be attending church for at least 6 months. We need someone who is meticulous and detailed, enjoys doing administrative work on a computer, and is able to serve in our church office on weekdays during office hours.

  3. What special skills are required?
You’ll need to be detailed and meticulous, as well as have organisational and administrative skills. Having basic computer skills will be important too.
