Kids-Talk, Faith-Talk

“I am awesome!” declared Wan Xuan, one of the beneficiaries of New Creation Church’s (NCC) Outreach Community Service Programme.

To some, this may sound like a presumptuous statement. But to the 11-year-old from Shuqun Primary School, this was what she had been told by the servers from Pastoral Services Ministry and she was determined to run with this truth.

On Saturday, 6 July 2013, a group of 51 servers from NCC’s Pastoral Services Ministry brought 38 students under the financial aid scheme in Shuqun Primary School, to the S.E.A. Aquarium on Sentosa. Among the many servers present was Jessie Choo, 48, a Business Development Manager and first-time volunteer.

“To me, the outing is really about opening my heart to love the children,” shared the amiable mother of two.

Jessie and servers from the Pastoral Services Ministry all geared up for their journey!

At 7.30am, Jessie and team arrived promptly at Shuqun Primary School. The children could barely contain their excitement. Jessie especially, couldn’t wait to introduce herself to Andi, the little buddy she was attached to for that day. When she finally met Andi, God’s love and compassion began to melt away every barrier.

“This love is supernatural. It is such an awesome feeling. When we are filled with the love of God, we will just love others, even a stranger,” Jessie recollected.

The duo hit off almost immediately and before long, Andi couldn’t stop sharing about his ambition to be a policeman with his newfound friend, while Jessie spoke affirming words over him.

“These kids need to be encouraged and I pray that whatever little I said or did will be a blessing,” shared Jessie.

By the time the day came to an end, the children had learnt many interesting facts about marine life and also got to put their little hands at work preparing beautiful handicrafts inspired by the sea creatures.

As a wrap-up, the volunteers took snapshots with their young buddies outside S.E.A. Aquarium as a memento. Each server also took this opportunity to pen down their words of encouragement for the children and prayed that these words would see them through every season of their lives.
