Vision Sunday 2018
On 7 January 2018, the first Sunday of the year, we gathered in anticipation of a fresh Word and theme from the Lord for the church in the year ahead.
As the people began streaming in to the various service venues across Singapore, our ambassadors and ushers handed out a card which was specially designed for the congregation to pen down their three prayer requests for 2018. Many had also come prepared with their prayer requests saved on a digital version of the card.
The service opened with a creative video leading into a time of praise and worship as we gave glory to God as one. We then looked to Jesus’ finished work on the cross in partaking of the Holy Communion together. This was followed by a video highlighting the key events and outreach initiatives that took place in 2017. Through the video, we reflected on the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness in The Year Of Jubilee.
This was then followed by a special item where aerialists, suspended in mid-air with synchronised movements and a laser light show, descended into The Star Theatre among the congregation. They joined a group of dancers on the stage where another aerialist touched down against a silhouette of Jesus on a multimedia backdrop. The dance ended with flair as the aerialist held up an illuminated open Bible signifying Jesus being unveiled through the preaching of the gospel.
Senior Pastor Joseph Prince then came on stage to share the message and theme for the year. Complemented by an animation, he expounded how 2018 would be The Year Of Hesed Wisdom. In Hebrew, Hesed refers to God’s grace, mercy and lovingkindness, His undeserved favour on us. Sharing from the Bible, Pastor Prince encouraged us to seek the Lord’s wisdom every day for every area of our lives, to have a hearing heart to follow His leading. And wisdom would yield as its fruits length of days, provision, honour, pleasure and peace (ref. Proverbs 4:7–9; 3:13–17).
The service culminated with Pastor Prince leading the congregation in prayer to lift up our three prayer requests for 2018 to the Lord. In closing, Pastor Prince also prayed for the congregation to have hearing hearts to actively pursue His hesed wisdom in the days ahead.
