After my daughter found a lump on her neck, somewhere below her right ear, I brought her to a general practitioner who suspected something serious and told us to get an X-ray done at a hospital.
At the hospital, the doctor ordered a series of blood tests as well as an X-ray. After a long wait for the results, she explained to us that my daughter could be suffering from lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. She arranged for us to see an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist the week after. We called our regular ENT specialist and insisted that he see us the next day.
After examining our daughter and the reports, he too suspected it could be lymphoma. He arranged for more blood tests as well as a biopsy to be done that afternoon. The next day, the blood test and biopsy results showed that my daughter was highly likely suffering from T-cell lymphoma.
The ultrasound also showed that all the lymph nodes around her neck area were oddly shaped. He explained his diagnosis to us and told us to make a decision quickly to start with chemotherapy as our daughter was still young, and the cancer cells could spread very quickly.
This was followed by more tests, X-rays and many visits to the hospital. I was at a loss. It was a big blow to me. The toughest part was to break the news to my husband who had been travelling a lot. I had to explain the diagnosis to him, but was not able to answer his questions. Our daughter became very sick. All the symptoms of lymphoma showed up, confirming the diagnosis.
We asked all our Christian friends and family members to pray for the healing of our daughter. I called my brother-in-law, who was an oncologist and a specialist in this field. After he spoke to the laboratory professor and doctor to understand the situation, he explained my daughter’s condition to us.
At that point, my world collapsed. I could not stop worrying for my daughter, and could not bear to see her suffer. In fact, she was about to start on her third year in university and I could not imagine her postponing her studies to undergo treatment.
I even asked God to let me have the disease, in place of my daughter. But God immediately told me that He is the Healer, and He is not the one who puts diseases on people.
We started praying daily as a family, believing God for healing. Finally, the doctors decided to send my daughter for another biopsy.
Though we were told not to put our hopes high, we believed in the power of prayer. Right after the biopsy, my husband thought of our close friends who attended New Creation Church. So, he called them and they prayed and partook of the Holy Communion on behalf of our daughter. Then, the most miraculous thing happened.
When my daughter was wheeled back from the operating theatre, my husband noticed the lump on her neck had reduced in size. We were confused and asked the doctor if he had removed the cancerous cells. But he smiled saying it was not possible to remove them just like that.
After discharge, we noticed that the lump continued to shrink and by the next day, it was gone. We knew this was the miracle we had been praying for.
We went to see the doctor after the biopsy results were out and praise God, no lymphoma was found! Instead, the final diagnosis was a mere infection. The doctor could not explain the difference between the two reports. But we told him it is God, our healing God. Praise God for His miraculous healing.
