At-Risk Foetus Born Healthy, Whole And Strong

When I was around 11 weeks pregnant, my gynaecologist discovered through an ultrasound scan that my baby had a worrying swelling from an unusually high measurement of fluid behind the neck. She explained that the normal measurement of the swelling should be less than 1.5 mm but my baby’s measurement was over 3 mm. This meant a high risk of a chromosomal abnormality such as Down’s syndrome or a congenital heart defect.

A second scan the next day revealed that the swelling had spread to my baby’s abdomen. Another gynaecologist was even invited to make yet another ultrasound scan and the diagnosis remained the same.

My husband and I were asked to consider if we would like to go for further tests or terminate the pregnancy. Our gynaecologist’s preference seemed to be for the latter. It was a difficult weekend. When Monday came, we decided to go for the chromosomal abnormality test. By then, my baby’s head, abdomen and limbs were all swollen.

As we waited for the test result, I started writing down healing verses from the Bible and meditating on the truth in Psalm 139 that the Lord is my baby’s creator. Thank God for Pastor Prince’s teaching on the holy Communion. It was the one “medicine” that I could take countless times without side effects. Whenever I got worried or wished I could “do” something, I would partake of the holy Communion and speak over my baby.

Surprisingly, that helped me to let go and rest. Sitting under Pastor Prince’s ministry over the years has also assured me that the Lord is not only able to perform a miracle for my child, He is also more than willing to do so.

On New Year’s Eve, my gynaecologist informed us that the chromosomal abnormality test turned out fine. However, she said that my child could still have a congenital heart defect, which was no less severe.

After the New Year, we went for a review and my gynaecologist was shocked to find that the swelling had subsided tremendously. She performed an extra-long ultrasound scan, flipped through her notes multiple times, then told us that she would have no objections if we wanted to continue with the pregnancy.

And so we did. By the fifth month of my pregnancy, all the swelling had disappeared. On 30 June 2016, our son was born healthy, whole, and strong. He hit his physical development milestones earlier than his older brother. He sat up before he was 6 months, pulled himself up at 7 months, started walking at 10 months, and was literally running even before he was a year old. A cardiac specialist also confirmed that his heart is perfectly formed.

Our son is a living, walking, drooling, super adorable testimony of Jesus’ incredible power and unimaginable love for our family. All praise, glory and thanks to our Lord Jesus!

Some time ago, my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter came down with a high fever and was hospitalised for what the doctors believed were flu viruses. However, after two nights, she became unresponsive and started gasping for air. She was later discovered to have a severe streptococcal infection. Her heart, lungs and kidneys were shutting down, and she was placed on life support.

At one point, the doctors could only tell me, “Your daughter is very ill,” while showing me X-rays of her lungs, which appeared completely white. They even arranged for a social worker to prepare us for the worst.

The doctors explained that if she did not improve, she would need to undergo a procedure to be placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine—a heart and lung bypass. They warned us of the risks involved, including possible brain bleeding, but said it was the only way to buy her more time.

I was devastated. When her condition worsened and I had to sign the consent form for the ECMO procedure, I remembered two of my Christian friends and asked them to pray with me. During the operation, my friends and I sat in the waiting room praying and worshipping God.

After the procedure, my daughter remained in the ICU. During that time, the church’s healing team visited regularly to pray and partake of the holy Communion with her. At a healing service, Pastor Henry also prayed for my daughter and declared that she was on her way to recovery. Pastor Mei from the Rock Kidz Ministry encouraged me to declare the finished work of Jesus over her as well. I spoke scriptures over my daughter and sang worship songs to her, and each time I did, she would respond by moving.

Days later, my daughter was successfully taken off the ECMO machine. Her kidneys began to recover, and dialysis was no longer needed. However, a later scan revealed bleeding on the brain, and we rallied the prayer warriors again. At the next scan, the bleeding was gone!

My daughter eventually underwent lung surgery to remove the remaining infection. After that, her fever broke, and she was transferred out of the ICU. One doctor told me, “She is a miracle. Whatever prayers you and your friends were praying, I think it worked.”

My daughter was discharged about six weeks after she was admitted. Through it all, the Lord was with us. He healed my daughter completely. All glory to God!

Last year, my husband and I were expecting our firstborn. On the day my water bag broke, we had just seen our obstetrician that morning and all was well, so we packed our bags and called a taxi.

As we got into the taxi, I experienced a massive gush of fluid and began bleeding bright red blood. We arrived at the hospital around 2am and, to our horror, the nurse attending to us could not detect any heartbeat.

An obstetrician who happened to be in the hospital came to assess me and immediately performed an emergency C-section. When I woke up from the surgery, I learned that I had suffered a placental abruption. My son had lost a significant amount of blood and had been deprived of oxygen for a period of time.

When he was delivered, he showed no signs of life. But the paediatrician resuscitated him and, by God’s grace, my son came back to life. All the doctors and nurses later told us we were very “lucky”. If we had arrived even a minute later, he would likely not have survived. But we knew it was not luck, but God.

A month later, when we visited the obstetrician who delivered our baby, we learned that he is also a Christian. He was not supposed to be in the hospital at that hour. He had come in for another emergency case and felt prompted to stay.

After birth, our baby stayed in the hospital for seven days. During this time, we were deeply strengthened by our church family from the Outreach Ministry, who prayed relentlessly for our son. The leaders also partook of the holy Communion on his behalf. His lungs improved so quickly that, two weeks after his discharge, he no longer needed oxygen at all. We were worried that his brain or organs had been damaged due to the lack of oxygen. But praise God, his brain scans showed that all was well.

Today, our boy is a healthy. His weight is trending above his growth curve, and he is meeting all his developmental milestones. The paediatrician has declared that he is past the initial birth trauma.

All praise to Jesus! We believe Jesus brought our baby back to life. We are also so thankful for our church family, who stood with us and supported us during this difficult time. We truly believe their prayers played a part in our son’s miraculous recovery. Jesus is indeed real and alive!
